Teacher Assistant Training

Launching new careers in education


Our Teacher Assistant Training program is designed to help those interested in building a career in the field of education by setting individuals on the path toward gaining the necessary certification to become a Teacher Assistant with options of working in early childhood education, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and within adult education. 

This program covers topics such as: the types of careers available for teacher assistants; Rhode Island state standards; roles and responsibilities of teacher assistants; principles of human development; diversity and inclusion; special education; behavioral health, safety; instructional practices and procedures; digital literacy skills; ensuring a positive classroom environment; and collaboration and team-building.

Program Components

Taught by a certified adult education instructor | Specifically designed with working adults in mind | Day or evening classes available | 10-week course | Includes one-week educational practicum and two-week workforce readiness preparation (including resume assistance) | Includes full preparation for ParaPro examination | Passing this exam makes you eligible to work with our partners | Hybrid

Location

In-person meetings take place at our South Campus located at 645 Elmwood Avenue, Providence, RI 

Eligibility

  • High School diploma or GED (Note: High School diploma does not have to be from the United States. Diplomas from other countries are equally acceptable.)
  • Intermediate level English proficiency (Note: If English is not your native language, you must pass the CASAS English proficiency test with a minimum score of 215.)
  • U.S. work authorization
  • BCI state background check (cost: $5.00) More information on how to obtain, here.
  • The commitment to finding a job as a teacher assistant

Cost

$200 Enrollment fee, includes the cost of the final ParaPro Certification exam (which is $85, and you can take up to 2 times if necessary).
