Direct Support Professional Training

Launching careers in health care support

This training program is designed to assist qualified individuals who are interested in a career in health care as a direct support professional providing services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them learn how to do things for themselves in order to become more independent. Direct support professionals are trained as caregivers, but also help people become integrated and engaged in their community. 

Dorcas International assists students who complete the training program with finding a relevant job earning up to $19 per hour.

65 hours classroom instruction | 15 hours work-readiness training

4 weeks | Daily, Monday - Friday

Teaching Mode

Hybrid (50% face-to-face classes and 50% virtual meetings) | In-person meetings take place at our South Campus located at 645 Elmwood Avenue, Providence, RI | Online classes take place on Zoom


$100/session paid upon enrollment


  • High school diploma or GED (Please note, your High School Diploma does not have to be from the U.S. If you have a High School Diploma from a foreign country, it is equally eligible.)
  • Intermediate level English language proficiency (If English is not your native language, you must pass the CASAS (English proficiency) test with a minimum score of 215.)
  • U.S. work authorization
  • Commitment to finding a job as a Direct Support Professional
  • BCI (state background check which costs $5). More info here
  • Valid Driver’s License

Applicants must complete the application linked below. Once the application is submitted, an Admissions staff member will reach out to schedule an orientation, an English proficiency (CASAS) test (if applicable), and to verify eligibility.
